Summer Camps 2023 |
Therapeutic Social Learning Summer Camps Summer 2023 (July-August) Speak Easy Communication & Education and Grow Together Therapeutic Learning Services Ltd will be providing Therapeutic Social Learning Summer Camps for children ages 4-16. Themed camps will be provided weekly for different age groups with each camp consisting of 3-6 children per group. These camps will focus on improving your child’s social competencies which will include:Self- regulationSocial emotional learningExecutive functioningPerspective takingSocial problem solving Older students are encouraged to demonstrate social learning mentoring with their younger peers, to build their self-esteem and social problem-solving competencies. Moving into a leadership role encourages reinforcement of skills they have learned, and provides positive role models for the younger students. It also provides younger students with role models who can share their life experience and share what works for them. Location: Speak Easy Communication & Education #101-4535 Uplands Dr. Time and Day:Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 Cost:$675 per week for all camps (except the Outings Camp will be $725 to cover the cost of outings) **May be eligible for AFU and/or therapy funding programs Camp Schedule: (see calendar below) STEM Camp – July 10th – 14th – 9:00-12:00 (ages 8-12) Detectives Camp Part 1 – July 17th – 21st – 9:00-12:00 (ages 6-9 ) Hangout Camp – July 24th – 28th – 9:00-12:00 (ages 12-16) Friendship Camp – August 14th – 18th – 9:00-12:00 (ages 8-12) Detectives Camp Part 2 – August 21st – 25th – 9:00-12:00 (ages 6-9) Outings Camp – August 28th – September 1st (ages 12-16) If your child is interested in a camp but is not available that week, please advise us of the weeks that you are available, as we may be flexible with the weeks. Therapeutic Social Learning Groups for Children Ages 3-6 We will be offering summer groups for children ages 3-6 on a weekly basis throughout July and August. Group sessions further develop and expand on the goals your child has learned in individual sessions with their Speech Language Pathologist. Social Learning groups will further prepare your child for school. Working in a group your child will constantly be engaged in a variety of social situations with peers, where therapists can observe your child’s social interpretations, and give immediate guidance to encourage positive interactions. Buddies Club Group (ages 3-6) This group will improve your children’s social competencies by focusing on self-regulation, social problem solving and social emotional learning. The tools used in this group include the Social Thinking® We Thinkers Curriculum, written by Kari Zweber Palmer, Nancy Tarshis, Ryan Hendrix and Michelle Garcia Winner, SCERTS model, and some basic executive functioning resources. Time: Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00 starting July 10th-August 30th, 2023(There will be no groups the weeks of July 31st and August 7th) Location: Speak Easy #101-4535 Uplands Dr. Cost: $80 per group session Detectives Club Level 1 (ages 4-6) This group follows the Social Thinking® We Thinkers Curriculum, written by Kari Zweber Palmer, Nancy Tarshis, Ryan Hendrix and Michelle Garcia Winner. Your child will learn to use the core concepts of this curriculum and further develop their problem solving and cooperation abilities by working together as a group. Some of the concepts that we will be teaching are, Thoughts and Feelings, how to follow a Group Plan, Whole Body Listening and more. All concepts that will be useful for school. Time: Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 – 4:00 starting July 10th – August 30th, 2023 (There will be no groups the weeks of July 31st and August 7th) Location: Speak Easy #101 – 4535 Uplands Dr. Cost: $120 per group session *Please be sure that your child is wearing sunscreen, has a water bottle, snack, hat, appropriate footwear, and clothing for all weather conditions, as we may be walking to nearby parks for snack and play breaks. |

May Speech and Hearing Month Colouring Contest |
This month is national Speech and Hearing month in Canada, and SAC is hosting a colouring contest for children ages 11 and under. We have the pages printed at the front desk for you to take home and colour, just return them to us by the last week of the month and we’ll be happy to submit them for you for a chance to win a $100 Chapters/Indigo gift card. Parent-to-Parent Tea Party Connections |
Speak Easy will be hosting Parent-to-Parent Tea Parties at Nanaimo North Town Center. Dates to be announced! Parent-to-parent tea parties are a great way for parents of children in speech language therapy to connect and support each other. These casual gatherings provide a safe and welcoming environment for parents to share their experiences, exchange tips, and offer each other encouragement. By coming together over a cup of tea, parents can build a supportive community that helps them navigate the challenges of speech language therapy and celebrates their victories along the way. |
